Religious Tourism

The Masjid Jami mosque

The Masjid Jami Mosque is used for its religious purposes. The Masjid and the Madrassas are located on Bazaar Square.

St. Nicholas Cathedral

Located close to the Central city cemetery or the Russian Cemetery as the locals call it, St. Nicholas Cathedral is the main Pravoslav church of Dushanbe.

Historical Tourism

Hisor Fortress

30km away from the city is the Hissar Fortress. In addition to the fortress, there are two plain madrassahs.

The Rudaki Museum

The Rudaki museum exhibits frescoes from the ancient city of Panjakent that depict a battle, a banquet and other daily life scenes. You can also find statues of Zoroastrian divinity and a wooden statue of a dancing woman in the museum.

It also highlights exhibits from Sarazm, a Neolithic site a few kilometres apart from artefacts and frescoes from the archaeological site nearby the city.

Cultural Tourism

Ayni Opera and Ballet Theatre Dushanbe

The place regularly has free or cheap concerts sponsored by embassies and traveling companies.

The Ismail Somoni monument

Located on the left bank of Syrdarya, this new monument stands on top of a hill surrounded by fountains. The main feature of the monument includes the light, music and colour show displayed every evening.

Nature Tourism

Julander

Julander is a hot spring, high altitude resort that offers a wonderful climb behind the springs.

Jisev valley

The Jisev Valley is a beautiful briefing point of an adventurous hike. The hike begins with the suspension bridge.

Pamir Highway

The Pamir Highway is probably the second highest road on earth and it crosses the Pamir Mountains through Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. A major part of the highway lies in Tajikistan and is one of the chief tourist draw cards.

Dushanbe Zoo

The Dushanbe Zoological Park or the Dushanbe Zoo is located next to the Pamir Stadium and estimates about twice the size of the stadium. The zoo founded in 1960, lies in the hub of the city on the Luchob river bank.

Dushanbe Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens are the best place to escape the dust and noise of the traffic in Dushanbe. A small forest with plenty of greenery is a quiet and peaceful place for newlywed couples.

Garm-Chashma

It is a hot mineral spring situated at an elevation of 2,325 m above sea level. Garm-Chashma runs through the Ishkashim District of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province in Tajikistan.

The spring is a few thousand years old. The deposits further cascade down to the Garm-Chashma River.

Leisure Tourism

Delfin Aquapark

Escape the heat with a visit to Delfin Aquapark, one of the favored holiday spots in the city. The park boasts a half-Olympic pool, kid’s pool with slides, and multiple slides for adults.

The Korvon Bazaar

A bazaar with an extensive indoor apparel and shoe section, the Korvon is also the place you can go to find fabric rugs, although all of the rugs come from Turkey and not Tajikistan. However, the bazaar has a smaller food section and is much cheaper than the Shakhmansur Bazaar.

Shakhmansur Bazaar

The biggest bazaar in downtown Dushanbe with a huge variety of cheaply available foods that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, spices, meats, dried fruit and bread. You can also find household products an odd assortment of tools in the centre of the market.
