Uzbekistan Mountain Tours

In Uzbekistan you can travel your way through the contrasting desert and mountain landscapes marveling the ancient architectural monuments that were built during the medievial era. You’ll have a bone chilling experience when you’ll realize that you’re walking in the footprints of Alexander The Great, Genghis Khan, and Tamerlane.

But Uzbekistan is not only limited to historical sighseeing, it has got sky-high mountains too. The mountain ranges of Western Tian Shan and Southern Tian Shan that rum through the eastern part of the country account for most of the mountains in Uzbekistan. The mountain range also extends in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and China.

Fergana Valley which is a depression located in between the mountain systems of Tian Shan and Gissar-Alai provide the best mountain tour experience where there are a number of resorts and recreational centers. It is also the msot fertile area in Uzbekistan where river Naryn and Kara Darya run through, making it the agricultural heartland of Uzbekistan. On the opposite end of the country, in the Chatkal Range which is part of the Tian Shan mountain range, you can have excellent mountain tour experience as well.

The climate is typical of the mountainous region with temperature well below the average of Uzbekistan. In summers, the temperature can reach up to 35’C and in the winters below freezing temperature. In the moutains you can spot few wildlife too which includes boars, foxes, bears, deers which live among the fruit trees and shrubs.

The major cities in the Fergana Valley Mountain side are:

Fergana City

Capital of the Fergana region, it was founded as a garrison town in 1876 because of its mountain top location.

Kokand

Located in the southwestern edge of the Fergana Valley, Kokand was at the crossroad of the two main trading routes leading into the Valley.

Namangan

It is a religious center in Uzbekistan which was once home to 600 mosques. It is also the third largest city in Uzbekistan.

Andijan

It is a frontier town bordering with Kyrgyzstan located in the edge of the Fergana Valley. There are a number of mosques and ancient architectural buildings still in this town.

Major cities in the Chatkal Range or the Tashkent region are:

Chimgan

It is ski resort town located near Chirchiq in the Chatkal Range. Tourists mainly come here from Tashkent for skiing purposes.

Beldersay

It is another beautiful ski resort located in the Chimgan Mountains at an altitudinal height of 1,600 meters above sea level.

Charvak (Chorvoq)

This town is 575 meters above sea level and lies adjacent to Lake Charvak. The panaromic view from in here in awe inspiring.
