TASHKENT. FEBRUARY 24. INTERFAX – Uzbekistan will abolish the mandatory wearing of masks because of COVID-19 on the streets and in public places from March 1 in connection with a decrease in the number of cases, the press service of the country’s Ministry of Health reported Wednesday.
“Since March 1, the requirement to wear masks in the open air and in public places has been abolished in Uzbekistan,” the report said.
The Ministry of Health noted that this decision of the Republican Commission on the fight against coronavirus was made because of the decrease in the number of infected people in the country. Wearing masks in public transport, markets and shopping centers, educational, cultural and religious institutions will be a recommendation, the ministry added.
In Uzbekistan, a mandatory mask regime due to the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 was introduced on March 23, 2020. A fine of about $125 was imposed for violating this rule.
