Overview
Tour to the Aral Sea is very popular for fans of extreme adventure and extraordinary travel.
The name “Aral Sea” comes from the word “Aral” meaning island. The sea’s name reflects the
fact that it is a vast basin that lies as an island among waterless deserts. The Aral Sea was
once the world’s fourth largest inland sea. Its problems began in the 1960s with the diversion of
the main rivers that feed it to provide for cotton cultivation in arid Soviet Central Asia.
Throughout this tour, you will have the unique opportunity to discover Karakalpakstan
(Autonomous Republic of Uzbekistan) and drive to the present coast of the Aral Sea to see Ship
Graveyard. This region is one of the most ancient centers of civilization in Central Asia. We shall
visit monuments whose foundation goes back to the beginning of our era and the
world-famous Museum of Art named after Igor Savitskiy.

Itinerary

Departure From Nukus To The Lake Sudochie. The Distance From Nukus To The Remnants Of The Aral Sea Is 300 Km (About 5 - 7 Hours).
Moving through the Kungrad district, which was one of the shopping centers of the Silk Road.
On the way - stop and inspect the ruins of the lighthouse near the abandoned village of Urga.
Next lunch - a picnic on the shore of Lake Sudochie.
The stop in Muynak (the former port city) is an inspection of the "ship graveyard".

After breakfast departure and drive back to Nukus with the visit to the ancient fortress of Kurgancha Kala 13th c.
