Nowruz (Navroz) – The Oriental New Year in Uzbekistan

Nowruz or Navroz is one of the biggest celebration in Central Asia and widely celebrating in Uzbekistan

Nowruz is a celebration of the New Year in many Eastern countries, which according to the astronomical solar calendar is celebrated on March 21.

The word "Nowruz" means "new day" in Persian. It is a celebration of the Spring Equinox, it is a national tradition and has nothing to do with Islamic customs.

Nowruz symbolizes the unification of all people and representatives of different religious denominations. On this day it is customary to give gifts, lay the holiday table and treat relatives, acquaintances and even passers-by with sweets and various delicacies. Traditional holiday dishes such as pilaf, sumalak and khalisa are prepared in every home.
Music is being played, songs are sung, and festivities are held everywhere in the streets of the cities. There is a popular belief that the more generous you celebrate Nowruz, the more prosperous the year will be for you. In some towns and villages has survived the ancient custom of jumping over the fires on the day of the holiday after sunset.

According to this custom, jumping over the bonfire, people ask the nature of an abundant harvest and prosperous life. Even women with small children jump over the campfire, believing that in this way they protect themselves and their children from evil spirits.

Nowruz is considered a public holiday and a day off in Uzbekistan.
