Embark on a winter group tour with your whole group consisting of family and friends and visit the idiosyncratic land of Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan at first instance might not seem like a winter tour destination, but the scenic view of this place which is mainly characterized by medieval architectural monuments is well worth a visit.
The topography and physical environment of this country is diverse and ranges from flat, deserts to mountain peaks. Therefore, it enjoys a varied climate and temperature range. Uzbekistan being a Central Asian country enjoys a continental climate that is hot summers and cool winters. While summer temperatures more often than not hover around 40°C, winter temperatures average around −2°C with some regions experiencing temperatures as low as −40°C. In Uzbekistan, winters last from October to March. So if you want to experience the ancient monuments of Uzbekistan covered in white snow, pack your bags around those months.
The capital city of Tashkent is a perfect blend of a cosmopolitan and ancient world with many mosques and historical sightseeing options.
Khazrati Imam Architectural Complex. It is an ensemble of various other architectural monuments many of which were built in 16th Century. It is named after Imam Abu Bekr Al-Kaffal Al-Kabir Ash-Shashi. The notable significant historical monuments in the complex are Barak-Khan Madrasah, Tilla Sheikh Mosque, MuyiMuborak Madrasah, KaffalShashi Mausoleum, Namazgoh Mosque.
The KhodjaAkhrarVali Mosque. It is built in the central part of ancient Tashkent. It is one of the oldest and third largest mosques in Uzbekistan.
Chorsu Bazaar. It is a big and one of the oldest markets or bazaars in Tashkent located in the old part of the city. Reportedly the market was built in 12-13th century and is still operational to this day.
Amir Timur Square. This central square of Tashkent is characterized by parks, fountains, and a giant statue of Amir Timur and is a strolling place for locals and tourists alike.
History Museum of the People of Uzbekistan. The entire history of Uzbekistan civilization is displayed in this museum with over 250,000 exhibits.
Historically, one of the major cities in Uzbekistan located along the Silk Road route, it is particularly renowned for its unique arts and crafts.
Registan. It is an architectural complex accommodating three madrasahs, namely, Ulugh Beg Madrasah, Sher-Dor Madrasah, and Tilya-Kori Madrasah. Registan Square is a prominent Islamic center of Uzbekistan.
Ulugh Beg Observatory. Historically, it was one of the best observatories in the world that was built by Ulugh Beg, grandson of Amir Timur.
Bibi-Khanym Mosque. It is a gigantic mosque built by Amir Timur in 1404 which is 40 meters in height to express his love for his third wife, BibiKhanym.
The Shah-i-Zinda Ensemble. This ensemble comprises of various mausoleums and spiritual structures which date back to 11th and 12th Century.
Hazrat-Khizr Mosque. Located opposite to the Bibi-Khanum mosque, it is one of the oldest Islamic religious structures in the Samarkand built in 7th Century.
With over 140 architectural monuments, Bukhara is often referred to as a city- museum. Multiple monuments are recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
Po-i-Kalyan Complex. This is an ancient ensemble many of the monuments of which are considered finest example of medieval Islamic architecture.
Khoja-Gaukushon Ensemble. This complex comprises of some of the largest group of buildings in Bukhara which includes mosques, madrasahs, and minarets.
Lyab-i Hauz. It is also an ensemble constructed during the 16th and 17th centuries that surrounds one of the few remaining ponds (Hauz) surviving in City of Bukhara. Kukeldash Madrasah, Nadir Divan-BeghiKhanaka and Madrasa are the main buildings in this ensemble.
Samanids Mausoleum. Built between 892 and 943 CE during the Samanid period, it is one of the finest examples of Central Asian architecture.
Chashma-Ayub Mausoleum. It is a pilgrimage place where there is a well, the water of which is considered holy and healing.
