What to do in Karaganda - tours and attractions

Karaganda is a little-explored and therefore so interesting region in terms of tourism. If you also want to walk on unbeaten paths, we invite you to take a tour around Karaganda together with Minzifa Travel!

The city is named after yellow acacia Karagan, which grows everywhere here. And the place, which is associated with flowers, cannot but fascinate. Both natural and cultural monuments of Karaganda are admirable, and we suggest you start your acquaintance with the city by visiting such sights as:

    Karkaralin Park in Karaganda

The picturesque region is striking in its diversity of animals and plants, many of which are included in the Red Book. The park is complemented by streams with crystal clear water, clear lakes and mountain ranges.

Many tourists come to Karkarala Park because of the Wish Tree, which grows on the shore of one of the lakes. On the tree you can find bright ribbons: vacationers tie them to the branches after making a wish, and believe that it will come true.

    Anet Baba Mosque

The regional mosque is the largest Muslim temple not only in Karaganda, but in all of Kazakhstan. The mosque was already built in our century in the classical Islamic style: three floors, sky-blue dome and minarets, artistic paintings and intricate ornaments. The prayer halls are accessible only to worshippers, but everyone can admire the mosque.

    In Karaganda

The people of Karaganda have a sense of humor, and this monument is a vivid confirmation of that. The landmark owes its appearance to Bari Alibasov: later it was included in the Guinness Book of Records.

The installation has an interesting idea. The composition includes three characters at once. A man-tourist with a suitcase is looking around and can't understand where he is. The second man scoffs and raises his hands: he's a local, and he doesn't understand the visitor's astonishment. And next to it stands the symbol of the city - a groundhog: he smiles slyly and waits for the tourist to guess the place of his stay. It is one of the most photographed and visited attractions in the city.

Cathedral of Our Lady of Fatima

The largest Catholic church in the country was built at the beginning of the twenty-first century, but at first glance you wouldn't think so. The temple resembles a medieval castle: it is very similar to the Cologne Cathedral, an example of Gothic culture.

The walls of the cathedral are made of brick, between the towers is a statue of the Virgin Mary of white marble. The interior decoration of the temple is striking - stained glass, frescoes, golden altar, biblical scenes. The cathedral has an organ and often hosts symphonic concerts.

    Park of Culture and Recreation

If you want to take a break from cultural monuments, you should definitely check out Central Park. The locals often walk here, so tourists have the opportunity to feel the familiar atmosphere of the city.

Karaganda Park is almost a century old: poplar and birch trees grow here, there are paths and alleys for long walks, there are catamarans and boats for water walks. The park has a lot of modern attractions, but tourists may be more interested to look at the rarities: the Soviet swings and merry-go-rounds. In the warm season in the park are concerts with the participation of local celebrities.

Can you imagine how great it would be to answer the question "Where are you?" at least once honestly - "In Karaganda!"? We can imagine, so we want to provide such an opportunity for you too!
