The memorial of Imam al-Bukhari, popular among Muslim pilgrims in Samarkand will become a real tourist center.

he memorial of Imam al-Bukhari, popular among Muslim pilgrims in Samarkand, will become a real tourist center thanks to restoration and new construction. The figure of an outstanding scientist theologian has always attracted Muslims, and now the memorial dedicated to him will be replenished with additional infrastructure.

As the General Director of the Silk Road Samarkand managing company Artem Yegikyan told the RATA - news, the grave of Imam al-Bukhari is one of the most revered shrines of Islam in Central. The company took over the complex of existing structures around it for restoration, and also planned the construction of a mosque and hotels for pilgrims. This will be one of the important points for pilgrims from Asian countries, as well as from Russia.

The total area of reconstruction and improvement works is more than 4 hectares, the building area is more than 2 hectares, including the underground gallery. The builders have preserved the historical spring and plane trees, which are already several hundred years old. It is planned to open two 4 * hotels and guest houses, which are built according to halal standards: hotels are located near mosques, there are Qibla signs in the rooms, special baths for ablution, etc.

The new mosque with four high minarets around the perimeter is designed for 9,200 prayer places.

At the memorial complex, visitors will be able to read namaz, perform Friday prayers and visit Al-Bukhari's tomb. It is stipulated that all facilities will be convenient for people with disabilities. Completion of the project is expected by the second half of 2022.

The renovated complex of Imam al-Bukhari has located 25 km from the large-scale secular resort Silk Road Samarkand, which is also at the final stage of construction and will be launched for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization forum in 2022. The opening of a new airport in Samarkand is also timed to coincide with this event.

Uzbekistan is considered a unique place for pilgrim tourism due to its geographical location. The country is located in the center of the Great Silk Road at the intersection of cultures, civilizations, and religions. On its territory, not only the monuments of oriental architecture have been preserved, but also Islamic, Christian, and Buddhist shrines.

For example, both Muslims and Christians revered the spring of the prophet Ayub in Bukhara - the saint is identified with the biblical Job. The burial place of the relics of the biblical prophet Daniel is located in the vicinity of Samarkand. The monuments of Buddhist culture in Uzbekistan include temple complexes on the territory of Old Termez. At the same time, the republic is among the ten most attractive destinations among the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation along with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. The authors of the hadith collections, Imam al-Bukhari and Imam at-Termini are very popular among Muslims. The Tashkent ensemble Khast-Imam and the Muyi Muborak madrasah of the 16th century, where the hair of the Prophet Muhammad is kept, is widely known. The Museum of Muslims of Uzbekistan houses the world's only original Koran of Caliph Osman of the 7th century.
