Tour to Uzbekistan: Arts and Crafts Heritage
Duration: 12 days / 11 nights Starting & Ending Point: Tashkent
Overview
Uzbekistan is world-renowned for its rich artistic traditions, vibrant ornaments, and unique craftsmanship that have been carefully preserved and passed down through generations. For centuries, artisans in cities and villages have created masterpieces of embroidery, silk weaving, ceramics, carpet making, metalwork, calligraphy, and miniature painting. This cultural journey is designed to immerse you in the living heritage of Central Asia’s crafts. You will not only explore the history and evolution of these traditions but also meet hereditary craftsmen, observe their techniques, and even take part in creating your own handmade piece.
Highlights of the Tour
- Suzani Embroidery: Learn about centuries-old decorative textiles embroidered with bright floral and geometric patterns. Try your hand at stitching your own design.
- Silk & Ikat Weaving: Visit silk factories and weaving workshops in Margilan to see how famous ikat fabrics are made using natural dyes and traditional looms.
- Carpet Making: Discover the painstaking process of hand-knotting carpets, and learn how each design tells a cultural story.
- Ceramics & Pottery: Explore Rishtan, famous for its sky-blue ceramic glaze, and meet masters continuing this ancient craft.
- Calligraphy & Miniature Art: Gain insights into the delicate world of miniature painting and traditional calligraphy, reflecting Islamic and Persian influences.
- Smithing & Metalwork: Watch blacksmiths forge knives, jewelry, and intricate ornaments with ancient techniques.

- Visit family-run workshops where traditions are passed from father to son, mother to daughter.
- Purchase authentic works of art — suzani, ikat textiles, silk paper, carpets, ceramics — directly from artisans at fair prices, avoiding middlemen.
